Alesandra Seutin embrace the idea that individuals have the power to live in the movement and to express themselves boldly.Alesandra was born in Harare, raised in Brussels and trained in London where she has made her residence. Seutin's work has toured nationally and internationally and she is a female choreographer making her marks. "Dance for me is a way of expression and through my work; I intend to speak volume" Her movement language reflects her cultural roots and is also a hybrid of Black dances and Urban dance styles within a Contemporary setting. She champion cross-art forms and is always looking for new ways of pushing boundaries of how people watch and interact with dance. In 2007 she founded Vocab Dance. The company has staged and toured 8 productions to date at UK venues such as Sadler’s Wells, The Queen Elizabeth Hall and Laban Theatre as well as at international venues such as Theatre Louis Aragon (Paris, France), Tangente (Montréal), Tanzhaus nrw (Düsseldorf, Germany) and Harbourfront Theatre (Toronto, Canada). www.vocabdance.co.uk In addition to the body of work she has built for Vocab Dance, she has created work for Phoenix Dance Theatre, 12º North Dance, State of Emergency, 3rdEdge, Trinity Laban Youth Dance and most recently commissioned by Studio Wayne McGregor as an independent choreographer. In 2011, she had the great honour to be selected by Germaine Acogny for the transmission of her technique. Alesandra now teaches Acogny Technique during the African & International workshops at Ecole des Sables and all over the world. In 2014, Alesandra became a One Dance UK DAD Trailblazers Champion for her continuous contribution as an artist of the African Diaspora in the UK, bridging the gap between African and Contemporary dance. She has recently ended a 3 years tour of her solo ‘Ceci n’est pas Noire’ and is now researching for her new work ‘Across the Souvenir’ in collaboration with visual artist Michèle Magema, for which she has been offered a residency at Olivier Dubois’s Ballet du Nord. This new work will be presented in October at Dance Umbrella 2017 in London and later toured in the UK. Alesandra Seutin is continuously developing as an internationally recognized artist from the African Diaspora, Alesandra engages cultures and helps in the international appreciation of dances rooted in African dance tradition.
